We asked Maria, baking guru and food trainer, a few questions about what food means to her and how she has risen in her five years with us (excuse the pun).

Black coffee or Oat latte, no sugar!

What do you usually have for breakfast?
Porridge or yoghurt with granola

How long have you been at GAIL’s and how have you risen?
I started in 2017. I was Head Baker I enjoyed training people, after 2 years I need a change and challenge myself. There was a vacancy on Food Training Team so I apply for it and here I am

What’s the first food you remember loving as a child?
French fries, (potatoes in any cooked way) and fried eggs

What does the smell of freshly baked bread remind you of?
The smell of fresh bread reminds me of my grandmother baking, using the wooden oven at home

What do you spread on your toast?
Depending on the time of the day – butter, guacamole or hummus, chocolate & hazelnut spread

What is the best part of your day?
Breakfast time

What’s in your ultimate sandwich?
Classic smoked salmon or pastrami bagel. I’m happy with our new food lunch!

If we could give you a lifetime supply of anything we make, what would that be?
Bread, I cannot live without
