We’re lucky enough to be able to do what we love every day — making bread, pastries, cakes, breakfasts, and lunches by hand, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. However, as bakers, we hate to see good food go to waste, and we believe any surplus should be used to give back to the community.

Although food waste is a huge global issue that needs systemic solutions, we believe smaller, collective steps can create a ripple effect and lead to a more significant impact. So, we want to do our part to ensure that our excess food ends up where it can make the most difference. This is why we currently support 95 local charities and organisations to whom we donate any surplus at the end of each day. It’s a small thing for us to do; however, we recognise its potential to transform wasted food into meaningful meals.

We take proactive steps by making it a priority to regularly evaluate the needs of our neighbourhood and adjust our charitable efforts accordingly. This is why we are delighted to support our current charities and partners and work hard to continuously expand our reach in the future.

Our Partnership With Eat Well MCR

GAIL’s Bakery is proud to join forces with the fantastic team at Eat Well MCR, a hospitality collective initially formed in response to the UK food insecurity exacerbated by the rapid spread of Covid-19. Eat Well MCR operates across Greater Manchester and is all about offering care and support to the most sidelined and vulnerable people by providing them with delicious and nutritious meals. The food is prepared with love by chefs and served with care to give a warm meal to those in need.

Eat Well MCR aims to tackle food inequality, which we at GAIL’s are passionate about. It’s inspiring to appreciate their impact, and we’re honoured to share this commitment. The team at Eat Well MCR has done a great job of creating a platform where businesses, charities, and individuals can come together to improve the limited food availability in our communities.

One of the things we love about Eat Well MCR is their commitment to building a transferable model that can be used in the long term. They’re not just addressing a current issue, but working towards creating a lasting change in how we approach food insecurity in our community. We could not be more proud to support such a fulfilling cause and are thrilled to be part of the Eat Well MCR movement.

We believe that charity doesn’t have to be a grand gesture; it can be as simple as a friendly smile or a helping hand— every bit counts, and small acts of kindness can have the biggest impact.

Together, we can make a difference and create lasting change in our neighbourhoods! We can fight against food insufficiency and promote a fairer and more sustainable food landscape. And that’s what we are all about— baking sustainably, spreading joy, and extending a helping hand, one freshly prepared meal at a time.
